Yesterday I got to meet the Yarn Harlot!
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee was doing a book-signing at a bookstore in Burlington, MA. Normally I wouldn't notice this, as I live in Arizona, but since I'm "vacationing" in MA, and Burlington is a short 1-hour drive, I decided to go. I have all of her books, but of course they're all in AZ. So to help out Stephanie's bottom line, I bought another copy of Knitting Rules so that I could have it signed.
Stephanie (I'm on a first name basis, now that I've met her) was wonderful. It was so much fun to hear her speak. It was also quite an experience to be surrounded by so many knitters. I don't know how many there were, perhaps a couple hundred.
Pictures of Stephanie and the crowd:
Many, many chairs filled with many, many knitters. Heaven!
Stephanie before her talk.
Me and Stephanie. I look pretty dorky, my excuse is that I was tired from...standing. Um, ok, I'll work on a better excuse.
After her talk, I finally got to the front of the line just under two hours later. I was amazed at her stamina, she was still friendly and welcoming after talking to so many people. I managed to give her a pile of panties that the women in line behind me handed off when they had to leave early*. I also gave her the Arizona washcloth that I finished knitting two minutes before I left for the signing; and a birdie monkey hat for the charity hat collection.
I used knitter's graph paper to generate the graph paper, then hand-drew the contours of Arizona onto it. I included Flagstaff in the middle there, plus the Grand Canyon in the upper left.
My hat model
And a birdie monkey hat in Paton's Grace (mercerized cotton). [I'll find the link for the birdie monkey hats soon. My internet connection consists of me sitting at McDonald's, and right now my mom (who came along for the ice cream sundae) is looking awfully bored so I'm trying to keep this short.] I kept on trying this on Max as I was knitting, to see when it was long enough. So of course he thought it was his, and only agreed to let me give it away when I promised to make him one just like it. I hope he forgets this promise, because this was like a sock yarn and required many many stitches.
*See Stephanie's post for an explanation about the panties.
Im glad you got to "meet" the Yarn Harlot. You even got your picture on the blog!! Its how I found you. I'm glad we got to stand behind you, I will be checking out your online store soon. So just curious what time did you get up there for your signing?

I LOVE your Arizona washcloth. Good for you! And I am also happy to see that you were able to get a break from sorrow, even if it is temporary.
