Three hours of uninterrupted sewing tonight, and here's what I've accomplished. One slipper. One slipper and I'm totally exhausted. I absolutely can't make another one tonight. My fingers hurt (because I was lazy and didn't want to go find my thimble). My head is starting to spin.
This one slipper has been about 2 weeks in the making. I have four prototypes (that I forgot to take pictures of). It looks so big, but I know it fits Max, it's perhaps even a little bit close. It's difficult to believe that my little baby has feet that will fit in this slipper.
Luckily, I still have two days to finish the second slipper. Max's kindergarten begins on Tuesday, and they require slippers. I thought it would be fun and rewarding to sew him cute little slippers to bring to school. After about the second prototype, I started thinking that perhaps I should look in the stores in case mine didn't work out. Well, guess what? Slippers appear to be a "seasonal" item and won't appear in stores until later in the fall, closer to Christmas. (What, kids don't wear slippers any time except Christmas?) That realization turned the heat up. I actually MUST make these slippers and they must turn out to be wearable.
And the arrogance? My thinking that making cute little slippers can't be too hard, of course I can whip out a pair or 10 without breaking a sweat. How fun to be taken down a few notches by my sewing machine.
I think those little slippers just are a bit more fiddly than I expect because even with as many as I've made, I always expect it's going to be a half hour of sewing, an hour maximum. Never, ever is. I think yours turned out very cute! I like the polka dot fabric.

I think it's darling, but I think the knitted ones you gave me would be wonderful too!

Hi. I know what you mean. My six year old needs slippers for school. Last year I decided to make him some from felted sweaters. Ouch!! The best thing? he love them. The worst? when they started to wear out, and he announced that it was almost time for me to make some more...
