How about having a swap for our kids? Just a few little things, sent through the mail, for the kids. Max loves helping me mail things (especially going to the post office), he loves getting mail (even if it's not actually for him), and he loves playing with new little things. Perhaps yours does too? If so, how about having a little end-of-summer swap?
Here's what I'm thinking: sign up by Friday, 18 August, I'll collect all the names and then redistribute, you'll then put together little packages to send out by Labor Day (or the day after, 5 September). You'll get perhaps 3 names to make packages for. Packages should be little, just a few little things. It would be nice if some or all of the things were handmade. Little store-bought things like stickers are OK. The handmade things can be completed things (for example, cut-out paper dolls glued to a popsicle stick), or they can be kits (paper dolls, not cut out, plus popsicle sticks). It would be great if your kids could help with the making of things!
I'm thinking of kids ages about 2 or 3 to about 5 or 6 or so. I'm not sure about the older end, as mine isn't there yet. If you think your child would be interested in getting little bits of this and that in the mail, then go ahead and sign up! (Packages may include small pieces, which wouldn't be good if yours still chews on everything.)
If you want to play, email me (zhinkadinkadoo AT gmail DOT com) this information by Friday, 18 August 2006:
Your name
Your child(ren)'s name(s) and ages--see note
Your address
Your blog URL
Also let me know if you're ok with shipping overseas.
If you have more than one child, you have some options. You can opt to receive one swap package for all of your children, or multiple swap packages, one for each. If you choose multiple, then you'll be expected to send out multiples as well. For example, if you have 2 children and you choose multiples, then you'll be sending out 6 packages, whereas you'd send out 3 if you choose group-as-one. ALSO: if you choose multiples, you can choose to receive same or different packages for each of your children (I'll assign your names to the same people or to different people).
So if you have more than one child, tell me:
group-as-one OR treat separately
AND if "treat separately", then tell me:
same OR different
Note on names: feel free to use aliases for your children, or just give me your name. You don't have to identify your child if you don't want to.
I made a button too (over on the left). Go ahead and grab it!
This is my first time organizing a swap, so if I've forgotten anything please let me know!
What a nice idea! My kids love the mail, too. I'll email you the details, but wanted to let you know we were interested in the meantime. Thanks so much!

THis is a great idea. Too bad Caleb is too young, and Spencer is back with his mom. Maybe this will catch on, and will continue. Kids love getting mail!
