Here's the sashiko crane quilt square that I did for Holli's swap for birdies. This was my first real attempt at sashiko, so don't look too closely. But if you take the quilt 5-foot (or 10-foot) rule, then I think it came out ok. The pattern and directions were from the book Sashiko and Beyond by Saikoh Takano. For the back, I used my newly learned quilt-binding techniques. And since I don't have my nametags yet, I embroidered a very rough "Z" in the lower right corner.
Go to this previous post to see the wonderful illustration that Holli sent me for this swap!
Amanda, it is simply stunning! And the back is awesome too! Wonderful!
I bought a sashiko kit a while back and it has the pattern already printed on fabric with water soluable ink. How did you get your pattern onto the fabric before you started the embroidery?

It came out so beautifully. You do such careful work. I admire your patience! I'm sure Holli loved it. I have to get started on my bird for her - it is supposed to go in the mail the second week of August. Thanks for pointing me in her direction!
